It is with our deepest sorrow that we share this news with you. Our most recent HALO patient, Salina who was a 17-year-old girl working as a cook in the Shree Nubri Basic School (one of our partner schools) located in Ghap, passed away last week.
Last Sunday, while Salina was walking to the village of Ghap, a rock fell from the cliff above and struck her on the head. She sustained a serious head injury which led to heavy blood loss. Our Ghap health post staff immediately responded to the situation, notified us of the urgency to send a rescue helicopter, and began tending to her severe injury. She was brought down as quickly as possible to Kathmandu for treatment. Unfortunately, she passed away in the helicopter on her way to the hospital.
Our hearts are shattered with the loss of Salina and we express our sincere condolences to all of her family and home community. Our hearts go out to all those who knew her in this time of grief and sorrow.
