The MountainChild Mission:
At MountainChild, we are hyper-fanatical about stopping the cycle of suffering. Our passionate mission is all about enabling the mountain child to become a carrier of hope to their people.
MountainChild exists for the purpose of raising awareness, resources and financial aid for humanitarian work carried out amongst impoverished children living in the Himalayas. Our origins began in 1997 when short-term exploratory teams traveled to the region to investigate reports of severe medical, social, educational, and environmental challenges facing children living in the Himalayas. Children from these areas are counted fortunate if they live to see their early adolescence. Research indicates that over half will die before reaching their eighth birthday, which is most vividly demonstrated by the gripping fact that many parents will not name their children until the child reaches the age of five. Statistics tell us that one out of every five children born in the remote areas of the Himalayas will die before the age of one. MountainChild is urgently working to improve the lives of these children by bringing food, medical aid, education and love to children who have little chance of survival amongst such hostile conditions. MountainChild takes careful steps to ensure that the cultural integrity and rich history of these precious children remains intact.

Combating the child sex trade industry.
It all started about 10 years ago when a small team trekking through the Himalayas stumbled across a group of young children being escorted out of the mountains by two adult men. It didn't take long to sense that something wasn't right.
Our worst fears were quickly realized when the two men openly spoke of their plans to sell the children into the booming sex trade industry of south Asia.
That's when we started crying. It wasn’t a shallow type of cry. This was deep, real deep, like a well, that frankly, we haven’t found the bottom of yet. We are still crying. But a few of us, decided to band together and to turn the tears into tactics. We started getting organized, started making plans about how a small group of people could make a big impact. That was ten years ago (2000). Today we have helped to mobilize thousands from nations across the planet into the great task of carrying hope to the MountainChild. The RANCH (Remote Areas of Nepal Children’s Home) serves as the starting point for our strategy of CARRYING HOPE.
Mountainchild is focused on the ethnic Tibetan people groups living throughout the Himalayas. Over the last 8 years special attention has been directed to the Nupri people who are 1 of an estimated 22 ethnic Tibetan people groups living within the borders of Nepal and in the Himalayas. Detailed analysis has been conducted amongst the people of Nupri including a research project done in conjunction with the University of Kathmandu. This needs assessment of the Nupri peoples of the north-west Gorkha was carried out with a view to identify, define and prioritize the needs found, and to develop plausible action plans aimed at administering aid to the people of Nupri. MountainChild is now focused on expanding its reach to the estimated 21 additional unreached ethnic Tibetan people groups living in Nepal.
